Penalty for Usury (Unlawful Interest Rate)Lender knowingly charging in excess of legal rate may forfeit all interest, all expenses of collection, and reasonable attorney's fee; first offense: fined not more than $500 and/or imprisoned for not more than 6 months; subsequent offenses: fined not more than $1,000 and or imprisoned for not more than 1 year (Tit. 9 §50)
Interest Rates on Judgments12% (Tit. 12 §2903)
ExceptionsRetail installment contract (Tit. 9 §§41a, 2405); municipal bonds (Tit. 24 §1761); loan secured for recreational vehicle, aircraft, water craft, and farm equipment (Tit. 9 §41a)
