Age at Which School Attendance is RequiredBetween 6 and 16
Exceptions to Attendance RequirementsAccredited nonpublic school, private college preparatory school or competent private instruction; completed requirements for graduation from accredited school or GED; sufficient reason by court of record or judge; while attending religious services or receiving religious instruction; physical/mental conditions do not permit attendance
Home School ProvisionsCompetent private instruction; minimum 148 days; annual achievement evaluation reported to school
Penalties on Parents for NoncomplianceSchool officers will use means available to school; if persists, referred to county attorney for mediation or prosecution; violations of agreement (mediation): 1st offense: up to 10 days jail or up to $100 fine or 40 hours of community service; 2nd offense: up to 20 days jail and/or up to $500 fine or community service; 3rd or more: up to 30 days jail and/or up to $1000 fine or community service
